The Terrace Hawks and the Kingston Buccaneers met under the Friday night lights, and clashed at Kingston High School. The Bucs were just no match as the Hawks went on to blow them out, 49-14.

The Hawks came into this game 6-1 and ranked second in all of WesCo 3A South. They had won five games straight, so you could say that they not only came in with a lot of confidence and momentum, but that they were the favorite to win this game.

The first half showcased the Hawks pound-the-rock style offense as they gave the ball to their running back-fullback tandem and let them loose to wreak havoc on the Buccaneer defense.

It wasn’t just that however. The Hawks defense was also put under the spotlight. They made the Buccaneers fight on every down. Though the Bucs scored a touchdown in the first half, it was not an easy one. It came on an 4th and 8 situation where the quarterback made the right read and a broken tackle helped the receiver scamper on into the endzone.

The first half ended with the Hawks taking a huge lead over the Bucs, 35-7.

The second half was mostly a blur. The Hawks tried to run the ball and milk the clock as quickly as possible.

The Hawks offense looked sharp in this game. They were able to score on every drive except for one. That one drive where they didn’t score on was the game-ending drive where they just ran out the clock.

This makes sixth straight win for the Hawks as they are now 7-1 with the best win percentage in Terrace history. Not only that, this Hawks football team has a chance to be the best ever in Terrace history. The two best Terrace teams both had records of 7-2. These teams were only about a decade after the establishment of Mountlake Terrace High School: the 1969 and the 1971 Terrace Hawks.

The Hawks play Oak Harbor at Oak Harbor High School next Friday, Oct. 31, where it will be the last game of their regular season. If they win, they will officially be the best team in Terrace history. If they lose, they’ll be the only 7-2 Hawks team that has made the playoffs.
