Mountlake Terrace has a senior-level class called Literature of Social Justice which this year is offered during two class periods (1st and 3rd). This year they read the book “The Hate U Give” as part of their Race and Racism unit. Each week had different topics that went along with the book and what they went over in class that week via different lessons and presentations. Students read outside of class and discussed the assigned chapters and how they connected to that week’s topic every Friday in an open discussion style.
The students final project for the end of their unit Race and Racism was an art piece. This art piece was to draw upon three topics that were the most memorable or impactful to the student over the unit.
Below is a gallery of a few of these artworks from some students who submitted these to Hawkeye staff to be published. While we weren’t able to publish all of the submissions, we were able to give a small glimpse.
