Women’s Swim compete in 2A District meet and advance to State

The Lady Hawks Swim team competed in the 2A NW District Preliminary Swim Meet on Friday, Nov. 3rd and the 2A NW District Finals Swim Meet on Saturday, Nov. 4th at Fidalgo Pool in Anacortes. Several Hawks advanced to the State Championship.

Hawks take sixth place overall with a score of 90 points, following close behind fifth place, Bellingham High School, with a score of 99.

In an interview with Hawks swim coach Rebecca Cartwright on the topic of the team’s chances of making it to state, she said, “What it comes down to for them is dropping some time or a wildcard spot,” and they did both.

On Friday during the Preliminary Meet, Carly Stave took sixth in 50 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Freestyle; Bre Enriquez took fourth in 100 Yard Butterfly.

Also on Friday, the Hawks took seventh in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, fifth in 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, and sixth in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.

On Saturday in the District Finals, Stave and Enriquez both took third in 50 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Butterfly, respectively, making them eligible for state.

Later that day, the Hawks also took fifth, sixth and seventh in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, 400 Yard Freestyle Relay and 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, respectively. Although they did not make the top three in any of the relays, all three relays were wildcarded, meaning the Hawks were close to the state time.

Women’s Swim team will be competing at the State Championship at the King County Aquatic Center on Friday, Nov. 10th at 10 a.m.
