Hawks volleyball beats the Tomahawks in a 4 set game

The Mountlake Terrace Hawks had a strong performance on Tuesday night, beating the Marysville Pilchuck Tomahawks in 4 sets. The win improves their record to 3-9 on the season and 2-8 in Wesco play.

Terrace won the first set in a nail biter, taking down the Tomahawks 26-24. A kill by Senior outside hitter Candace Disney gave the Hawks a 25-24 lead and put them in a set point situation, before a Tomahawk player spiked the ball out past the Hawk’s end-line, sealing the first set victory for Terrace.

The Hawks dropped the second set by a score of 20-25. Terrace got off to a great start in the second set, having as big of a lead as 10-1, thanks to a strong display of serving. The Hawks could not hold on to the lead as the Tomahawks fought back to tie the match to 1-1.

Despite losing the previous set after having a big lead, the Hawks managed to continue to play hard and took the third set with a score of 25-15. Again, Terrace started the set with a big lead, leading 12-3, but the Hawks stayed focused and held on, finishing the set strong.

The Hawks blew past the Tomahawks in the fourth and final set of the match with a score of 25-12. Early on, Tomahawks looked determined to not go down without a fight, keeping the set as close as 8-6, before a strong team effort for the Hawks helped them seal the victory for both the set and the game.

Hawks Volleyball Head Coach Rene Noeun credited Terrace’s serving and accuracy of hitting to the victory over Pilchuck:

“They were hitting the spots that I was telling them to serve and they were getting on a run” Coach Noeun explained, “Everyone was changing up their spots so the defenders on the other team weren’t able to anticipate us. Since we were changing things up, we were keeping them off their toes.”

Terrace’s victory was highlighted by strong performances from Senior setter Sophie Parsons, Senior middle blocker Zoe Goodmansen, Senior outside hitter Candace Disney, and Junior Karly Rismoen. Parsons recorded 7 kills, 18 assists, and 10 digs, Goodmansen recorded 12 kills and 4 blocks, Disney recorded 7 kills, and Rismoen recorded 15 assists.

Terrace looks to take the momentum from Tuesday’s win into their next match-up vs Shorecrest on Thursday at 7:00 PM at MTHS (Originally on Wednesday at 7, but postponed due to power outages). Before the game, the team will honor all the Seniors on the team.
