The hit anime series, “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure,” has finally received its long anticipated seventh season titled “Steel Ball Run.” While the manga of “Steel Ball Run” concluded in 2011, it is only just now receiving an animated release. “Steel Ball Run” – also commonly referred to as SBR – was written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki and is the seventh part of the anime “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.”
Being the seventh part of “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure,” the story follows the main character Johnny, a paraplegic man who desires to regain the use of his legs, joining a cross country race going from San Diego to New York after wanting to learn about a fictional ability called “spin” that a man named Gyro possesses.
Originally the “Steel Ball Run” wasn’t marked as “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure,” but after the move to the “Ultra Jump” it was officially dubbed as the seventh part in the series. It is commonly seen as one of the best mangas made due to its eye-catching art, its complex and well fleshed out characters, and the creativity of the story and the battles in it.
The anime is currently being made with it scheduled to come out sometime in 2026, directed by Yasuhiro Kimura and Hideya Takahashi, who also directed the earlier seasons. We do not know the month or the day, sadly, but that information will come out with time. It was announced during this year’s “JOJOday” event, which is a convention for the series that happened this year on April 23. The trailer came out on Sept. 23, also showing that it was going to be on Netflix.
It’s being on Netflix like “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’s” sixth part, “Stone Ocean.” This raised some concerns about the release, as part six wasn’t released in a weekly episode format, but was instead released in batches.
Netflix has always had a history with doing batch releases and not episodic, such as in the shows “Squid Games” and “Stranger Things.” People don’t always like batch releases as it is seen as a “discussion killer,” since it’s harder to keep everyone talking about it for so long if they can just binge watch it in one night.
If you haven’t watched or read “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure,” now would be a good time to start if you are interested in the show.
You can watch it all on Netflix, most on Hulu, and other websites like Crunchyroll or even on a third party if you can’t or don’t want to pay for a subscription. However, you can only get the sixth part, “Stone Ocean” on Netflix as only they own the legal right to the anime.
If you want to read SBR, it is in book form where you can check out or buy the copies, or just read it online. Or, wait for it to be released on Netflix and go into it without knowing what happens in it, both good options for enjoying the content.
Many speculate that 2026 is going to be a great year for anime as a whole, as we are also getting season three of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” “Re:Zero” is getting its season four, “Devil May Cry” is getting its season two, and “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” season two also coming out along with many more niche shows to be excited for.
