Season 27 of South Park dropped its first episode back in July, and is back with a whole new heap of controversy. The first two episodes all made fun of major right-wing figures. Episode one of season 27 focused on President Donald Trump and made multiple insults towards him. Some of the points the episode made were giving Trump the same voice and animation style as Saddam Hussein from the South Park movie, have him be naked in bed with satan, show him threatening to sue people for slightly disagreeing with him, and throughout the episode, they animated Trump with a comically small “anatomy”. The episode also includes an AI generated video of Trump getting naked in the desert and having his “anatomy” talk to him. After the release of this episode, the White H ouse gave the following statement:
“The Left’s hypocrisy truly has no end — for years they have come after South Park for what they labeled as ‘offensive’ content, but suddenly they are praising the show. Just like the creators of South Park, the Left has no authentic or original content, which is why their popularity continues to hit record lows. This show hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention. President Trump has delivered on more promises in just six months than any other president in our country’s history — and no fourth-rate show can derail President Trump’s hot streak.”
Not long after this, episode two of season 27 was aired. This time targeting the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, Charlie Kirk, as well as Kristi Noem, the head of the Department of Homeland Security. When criticizing ICE, the episode made fun of how ICE hires people very easily and recruits almost anyone. They also point out that ICE often detains multiple innocent people and doesn’t go through the proper procedures to figure out if someone is a citizen or not.
They also had ICE raid a Dora the Explorer live show, and go into heaven to arrest Latinos. In the episode, one of the characters Cartman dresses as Charlie Kirk and debates young college girls about abortion and women’s rights. This is South Park criticizing how Kirk only debates against college students who have no experience debating, and how the topics he debates are far-fetched, suggesting he’s just seeking clout.
The episode mainly made fun of Kristi Noem, with her face constantly melting and falling off and needing to be fixed with Botox and plastic surgery. Throughout the episode, she is also shown saying multiple racist things towards Mexicans, such as “Remember only detain the brown ones!” and “If it’s brown, it goes down!” She is also constantly shown graphically shooting random puppies in the face throughout the episode. This is a reference to when, in real life, Kristi shot and killed her 14-month-old puppy after she stated it was untrainable. She would then write and brag about it in her biography.
The episode ends with the main characters of the episode, Mr. Mackey and Clyde, being sent to a parody of Epstein Island, and showing JD Vance as a dwarf with a baby face who follows Trump around. Also, Kristi Noem shoots down Krypto the Superdog with a Sniper at the end of the episode.
Many people had different reactions to their portrayal in this episode. Both JD Vance and Charlie Kirk thought it was funny and laughed at the jokes. Kristi Noem stated that the show was being lazy with their jokes, with how they were making fun of her, with her facing falling off, claiming the show’s creators were being offensive towards women. But strangely enough, she didn’t comment on how the show showed her killing puppies left and right, or her racist remarks towards Mexicans.
Now, many people wonder why South Park is being so critical of the right wing. Well, the answer is really funny and quite genius.
Before the release of the new season, Paramount was giving South Park a lot of trouble, and South Park had to delay Season 27. At the same time, Paramount is trying to merge with Skydance, but it needs approval from the Trump administration to do so. But at that time, Trump and Paramount were in a lawsuit. So in order to do the merger, Paramount decided to appease Trump by settling with him, and canceled “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” due to the show constantly criticizing Trump. And soon after this, Paramount gave South Park a $1.5 billion deal and put them on their streaming service, Paramount+. So everything was finally going well for Paramount, and they could finally complete their merger.
South Park’s creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, still very much hated Paramount, and they had the perfect opportunity to get their revenge. So then South Park released episode 1 of the new season almost immediately after being added to Paramount+, ruining any good relations Paramount had with Trump, causing the merger to stop.
So after all of the delays and trouble, Matt and Trey finally got their revenge on the industry they hated, and got rich from it in the process, which leaves us where we are now. Season 27 is still releasing episodes, but they seem to be slowly stepping away from the politics and focusing more and more on classic South Park. Who knows how all of this will affect the show’s future and what they have in store for the fans.
