Sophomore Girl scout throws ceremonial first pitch at mariners’ game
By Hawkeye Staff

Representing Girl Scouts USA, sophomore Alysabeta Barrett was honored by the Seattle Mariners at their Aug. 3 game, who asked her to throw the ceremonial first pitch. Barrett was chosen in part because she recieved the medal of honor for saving the life of a toddler who was choking.
Barrett was selected as part of the “Cover Your Bases” program – a collaborative effort between the Girl Scouts and the Mariners that is aimed at encouraging people to prepare for emergencies and disasters. Several booths and stations were set up at T-Mobile Park where fans could get information and test their prevention knowledge.
Barrett, 15, is the daughter of counselor Amy Barrett. On that Sunday afternoon, the Mariners beat the Chicago White Sox 8-6.

The push for the day’s adoption was made by MTHS students Riley Guthrie, Brennan Bahe, and Elizabeth Herrmann of the school’s ISU.

AI continues to spread into the classroom
By Teresa McIntosh

AI, or artificial intelligence, works by using algorithms to analyze data and recognizes patterns that are in said data to be able to predict outcomes and responses. In schools, AI can be a useful research tool for students, being able to summarize topics and pull up answers without loads of digging.
It can also be used to make summaries and flashcards for people. For some, it is a fine way to have your topics simplified for you with the help of an AI model like ChatGPT.
However, students have also been using AI in a different way other than studying for their classes. Many students in high school and even college have been using AI on their assignments. Here at Terrace, there’s a policy against plagiarism, which is cheating. AI isn’t a student’s work, meaning using AI for a project is subject to disciplinary action.
In addition, using AI for assignments is going on beyond high school and into college. In college, people are being kicked out for using AI.
In college, cheating has less tolerance than in high school. Using AI can be a useful study tool, but you shouldn’t use it for your assignments.
Hollow Knight: Silksong finallaly releases
By Madeline Simkowiak

Indie Metroidvania by Team Cherry. Since its announcement in 2019, Silksong has been teased several times, but information is always rare and release windows always fell through. Throughout those six years Silksong gained its reputation as a game which will “never actually release,” becoming the most wish listed game on Steam.
The Silksong announcement also was released alongside a new trailer, showcasing several of the game’s areas and enemies. In this trailer, they revealed that Silksong would have over 200 new enemies and over 40 new bosses. Compared to Hollow Knight which had just over 140 enemies and 30 bosses at launch, many fans speculate that Silksong will be a much larger game than the original.
After the new trailer, a playable Silksong demo has also been available at several game conventions such as Gamescom and Pax West. While the demo was not released to be played at home, the game itself is just right around the corner.
