You may or may not have heard about this, but something insane has been happening in Hollywood.
In February, a Chinese animated film called “Ne Zha 2” released seemingly out of nowhere. And it exploded. In less than a month, it broke all kinds of records and made some really impressive lists.
If you asked me, I couldn’t tell you a thing about what happens in the movie. But I can tell you about its huge achievements. In less than a month, this movie beat the biggest animated film ever, “Inside Out 2,” and became the highest-grossing animated movie ever, the biggest non-American movie ever made, is one of the top 10 most successful movies ever, and is on its way to becoming the first animated movie to make $2 billion. In its first week in theaters, it raised roughly HK$5.6 million, which is around $700,000.
How did it do all this?
Simple. “Ne Zha 2” is a sequel to “Ne Zha,” which is very popular in China. And the main character is as popular in China as “Spider-Man” is here. So it makes sense why it did so well.
As of press time, the film has made $1.9 billion and is still less than a month old. It will undeniably keep growing and making more noise. Hopefully, this will be good competition for American movies and push them to become better.
