In what may be the best year ever for Terrace’s highly regarded FIRST Robotics team, Chill Out 1778 is currently ranked 14th in the world out of roughly 3,700 teams across the globe. And for the second year in a row, the team is headed to the world competition in Houston, Texas.
The team will be heading to Houston on April 15 and return the following Monday. The competition will be live streamed and information will be on the team’s social media sites.
At the Pacific Northwest District Championships last weekend in Cheney, Chill Out went 11-1 in qualifying matches and captained the 2nd seeded playoff team.
While the team did not take first place at the PNW competition, their cumulative scores and placings more than earned them the trip to the world competition.
Earlier this year, Chill Out was ranked as high as 3rd in the world. That garnered a great deal of attention and the team was featured in a regional PBS story about FIRST Robotics. Longtime Seattle broadcast journalist Paris Jackson covered the story.
