Halloween has passed, but everyone always appreciates a good mystery about the school they attend. If you’ve been attending MTHS long enough you will have probably heard about people encountering strange things happening in the school, especially if you have ever been apart of the drama department or visited the theatre.
These encounters are nothing of the fourth kind or trip to the French opera, but more along the lines of having odd things happen while working on an upcoming play or during drama class.
According to drama teacher Jeannie Brzovic, these trickeries have been going on for a while, “The theatre ghost was in residence before I got here. I don’t really know who she is. We think she is a female ghost, because she seems to be most active around our male theatre technicians. She has been know to play pranks on techies and likes to play with the lights in audience area. We call her Gertrude, which she seems to be satisfied with, and sometimes we put her name in the program, which also seems to make her happy. We have found that when her name appears in the program there are fewer unexplained problems and pranks. There was one photo taken by one of our student techies, and next to him was a blurred glowing figure of a woman. I think that was the moment that I started to believe there might actually be something to the rumor.”
Unfortunately the photo taken by the former student could not be located, but those who did see it were instantly convinced that there actually might be something supernatural there
On top of the story of the possibility of a ghost wondering in the theater, some of you may know that the Hawkeye students stay behind at school late into the night on school days as well as on weekends, and have said to experienced weird things happening while we walked through the school.
Our own photo graphics editor, Heidi Lara-Flores, has claimed hearing weird noises while heading down to the news room to work, “ I was walking down to the room and heard doors and shuffling noises, and thought it could be one of the other staff, but he had left as I was coming in so that was ruled out. I also thought it could have been the janitorial staff but, it was much too late for them to still be here.” This was not the first time something odd has happened to one of the staff, and it certainly wont be the last time as long as the school is standing.
Though this has absolutely nothing to do with ghosts it makes you wonder about what happens after school hours.
One night a terrace alumnus and his friends were goofing around and decided to come to the school. Once here, they walked to the to the back of the school, by the art rooms, and climbed on top of the fenced of air ventilation system to the roof.
After getting on top of the roof they walked a little ways to the very top, and found a small door that seemed to be open. The hatch or knob seemed to be unlocked and only opened from the outside.
The alumnus and his friends decided on going inside and found themselves in a long small hallway. Along the left side were doors, and when they opened these doors they found a single chair and single light hanging from the ceiling.
At the very end of the hallway there was another door with another chair inside, but along with the chair on the back wall there seemed to be chains hanging on the wall. In The corner of this room there was also a ladder that looked to have led to an opening outside.
They climbed up the ladder and found themselves on a small type of balcony. It was very dark and they hadn’t brought any type of light source, but after looking around a bit up there they found what they think were rags with blood on them.
Once they had found this they quickly decided that they had better leave, and only spoke to friends about there strange findings, and dared not tell administration because they would, of course, be expelled.
There could be many explanations to this story, but no one will ever know. Only you can decide whether our school has unexplained events or places hidden in it or it’s history.
