Yeah, we know the Hawks put on a clinic Saturday night dismantling the Oak Harbor Wildcats 64-32 to earn a trip to the District Championship game against Stanwood next Saturday at Jackson H.S.
But what everyone is still buzzing about – and there was a lot to trip anyone’s buzzer from the first half of the game – was LaTrae Sarden’s dunk off a missed lay-in by Blake Fernandez in the middle of the second quarter. Yes, you read that correctly – 6-foot 2-inch LaTrae Sarden threw down with authority on an incredibly well-played and well-timed sequence as the Hawks stormed out to a 46-11 halftime lead.
Yeah, you read that correctly, too – 46-11. The Hawks held Oak Harbor to 7 points in the first quarter, 4 in the second quarter – including a 4-plus minute stretch to finish the half where the ’Cats were held scoreless – 6 points in the third and, yes, 15 in the fourth.
Still, you want to see the dunk, right? So, the best way to do that is to follow these easy steps:

However, if you want a quick recap of the play – from the great defense by Sarden and Fernandez all the way to the dunk – check out this exclusive annotated .gif file prepared by the Hawkeye with special thanks to HBN for the video. We’re also working on getting cleaner video of it, too.
Just click on the photo and the .gif will begin to animate (depending on your browser, you may have to click it a couple of times).
Enjoy.
