The annual homecoming game was one for the books as the Hawks topped Shorewood 35-17 on Friday, Oct. 11 at Edmonds Stadium. And a week later, the Hawks won the battle of the birds banking the Everett Seagulls 34-0.
The homecoming game kicked off at 8 p.m. with the Stormrays receiving the ball. The Stormrays started the game off by getting a pivotal third and one first down. The Stormrays powered through the Hawks’ defense to pick up three consecutive first downs to get into the Hawks’ red zone.
The Stormays scored on a 15-yard touchdown pass with 6:36 remaining in the first quarter going up 7 to nothing to start the game. The Hawks received the ball immediately after and sophomore running back Owen Boswell had things going well with a spin for a first down.
The Hawks continued the onslaught of rushing attacks as sophomore quarterback Mason Wilson rushed for a huge 15 yard first down. Wilson rushed again on the Hawks’ third down as he hurdled over the defender for a massive first. Wilson ran hard to the right to get down to the Stormrays’ 10 yard line. Boswell slammed forward for a rushing touchdown to knot it all up at 7 a piece to round out the first quarter.
The Stormrays hadn’t lost hope, as they returned the ensuing kick 20 yards. The Stormrays handed the ball off on first and ran a flea flicker play to get a quick first down.
Then the Stormrays rushed outside for a quick 20-yard rush. The Stormrays then ran another routine rush just to get the ball punched out as the Hawks recovered the fumble.
Junior tight end Nate Brown started the drive off with an angry five yard rush. Boswell then got the ball and rushed hard and fast out to the right for a 40 yard touchdown. Terrace was then up 14 to 7 with 10:50 left in the half.
Senior linemen Terrence Lindamood and Elijah Swett lead the defense through the game and were the players to thank for forcing two Shorewood fumbles. Due to his performance, Swett set a new season record with eight total tackles in the game.
The Stromrays got the ball back with two hard runs in a row for 20 and 35 yards as they continued to expose the Hawks’ rush defense for a 10 yard first down. The Stormrays rushed one more down to get into the endzone again knotting up the score at 14 a piece.
The Hawks got the ball back and started off messy as they continued to not gain any yards and ended up punting. The Stormrays got the ball back and hit a 30 yard field goal to go up 17-14 rounding out the first half.
Boswell slammed forward for another rushing touchdown early in the third quarter putting Terrace ahead for good 21-17.
To start out the fourth quarter Terrace found the endzone again to go up 28-17 with 9:30 left in the game. The Hawks struck again with another touchdown going up, 35-17. The Stormrays tried to get back into the game, but they fumbled the ball. The Hawks closed out the game winning 35-17.
The Hawks faced the Everett Seagulls on the road on Oct. 18 for Everett’s homecoming game. Boswell finished the game with 142 yards and Wilson with 107. In their Ultimate, the Hawks defeated Everett 34-0 for their second win in a row with a season record of 5-2. Everett fell to 1-6.
