Last spring, the Terrace speaker system was replaced following a series of issues and technical problems during the 2023-2024 school year. The new speaker system however has its own set of problems. Students have reported inconsistent volume of the bells and announcements, causing issues with passing periods and class start times. The first bell of the day seems to be a problem for students, as the past few school days the bell hasn’t sounded. During regular passing periods however, the bell has made a very loud sound, which has distracted from classroom learning time.
“I have noticed that the volume isn’t regulated yet, and sometimes it’s loud enough that it makes the speaker crackle, and students seem to have a hard time with their ears.” Spanish teacher Marcie Setala said.
Principal Crosby Carpenter says these issues are being investigated. “We’re working with the contractor to identify the issue so that we have consistent, reliable volume and communication in all classrooms.” It is unknown at this time how long this issue will persist, or when contractors will identify the issue, for now, keep an eye on the time, and an ear out for quiet bells.
