Despite trailing for the better part of the game, the Hawks – again – found a way to persevere, scratching and clawing their way to tie the game with less than 7 seconds to go in regulation before putting Kelso away 67-65 in overtime in front of an enthusiastic crowd Feb. 26 at Jackson H.S.
Here’s how the game was sent into overtime. At this point, the Hawks are trailing Kelso 61-59 with just under 7 seconds to go. Here’s how the action unfolds:
- Guard Chris Meegan (11) passes the ball inbounds to Jeffrey Anyimah (23).
- Anyimah drives to his left where he uses a great pick by Addison Mattix (33).
- Anyimah continues to the basket with an option to drive himself, or to kick it out to guard Vito Mkrtychyan (21) for a possible game-winning 3-pointer.
- Instead, Anyimah sees that the player guarding forward Zaveon Jones (41) has left him alone in the key to help against his drive.
- Anyimah makes a great pass to Jones who puts it in as the buzzer sounds.
- TIE GAME. OVERTIME.
