Hey Hawks, it’s Kerensa, your Big 6 President! Summer is coming to a close, and the school year is about to begin once again. I hope everyone had a relaxed and fun summer after the last hectic year and a half.
The previous school year was quite abnormal for all of us, but hopefully this year, things will begin to stabilize as we come closer to returning to a normal school experience. Although many events aren’t guaranteed to happen due to COVID-related restrictions, I can assure you that we at ASB are trying our best to make your experiences as positive as they can be while making up for lost time. The beginning of this year will still be somewhat chaotic though, particularly with the incoming freshmen and sophomores in the class of 2024 and 2025, as many of them haven’t even stepped foot into the school building before the start of this school year.
Unfortunately, this year still won’t be a perfectly normal school year, especially since events such as assemblies are not allowed. As much as I wish we could have our normal back-to-school assembly and have everyone hyped, we’ll have to adjust accordingly due to COVID.
We may have smaller assemblies during the year withall of the classes separated. We also may not have our homecoming dance this year, but we have something special planned if we need to replace it.
We are still planning to decorate the halls and have a competition between classes, a coronation to recognize students and spirit weeks throughout the year as per usual. I know that the lack of exciting events and normality is disappointing, especially with many of us still suffering from the effects of online learning last year.
Everything is up in the air right now, and I can’t say what we will for sure be doing or when we’ll be doing it. I strongly urge all of you to continue being safe and wearing your masks so that we can continue moving forward and hopefully return to our regular lives.
With the lack of events this year, I recommend all of you join clubs and sports! These activities are one thing I know are happening for sure. Some sports have already started, including boys’ tennis, cross country, volleyball, girls’ soccer and girls’ swim.
Make sure to look at the announcements as well, since they may include clubs that peak your interest. These after-school activities are a great way to socialize and meet new people who you share interests with.
For incoming freshmen and sophomores that are interested in joining ASB, election papers and information will be available the first week of school. I would love to see many of you guys join.
Within your class ASB, you’ll mostly be helping your peers plan events and fundraisers in order to help raise money for your prom. If you want to help benefit both your class and your school, consider running for office.
We are currently planning to go fully in-person, which is exciting. I can’t wait to see all of you again and meet some of you for the first time. I hope to see a lot of spirit too! I wish all of you good luck and a great school year. Please stay updated on upcoming events by looking at our weekly informational emails and following us on our Instagram @mountlaketerracehs.
Be safe and see you guys soon!
