A service for 2014 alumnus Andrew Shehata will be held at noon Saturday at St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church in Lynnwood.
The Shehata family has invited those who were close to Andrew at MTHS or want to share their support to attend.
Shehata died last Friday in a hiking accident. When he attended MTHS, he was involved in the Dynamics jazz choir and Key Club, among other activities. He went on to the University of Washington at Bothell, where he was majoring in Media and Communications.
The official MTHS Facebook page published a statement from the Shehata family that said Andrew “brightened the lives of countless people throughout his time on earth by offering a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, or a joke to make you smile when you most needed it.”
His younger sister Zanny, a senior, said he was the “best big brother in the world.”
In lieu of flowers, the Shehatas encourage people to donate to Real Change, a weekly newspaper that provides jobs and support for low-income and homeless people.
