In the past week, students in the Edmonds School District (ESD), as well as others, have been sent phishing emails to their district accounts. These emails are seen as shared Google documents that are sent by other students or even members of the ESD.
It is important that, if receiving the phished emails, the emails or the links within them are not opened and deleted.
Phishing emails are generally people or groups attempting to get private information from others by posing as reputable or reliable sources. It has not been confirmed as to who is spreading this specific thread of emails.
ESD Technology Director Cynthia Nelson confirmed that it is a problem from Google Drive and not just within the ESD. Nelson confirmed that the tech department at ESD is working with Google on “stopping the spread of the virus within our district.”
