The Terrace softball team made history as they took second place in the 4A state tournament in Tacoma.
Led by dominant senior pitcher Kori Seidlitz and a strong core of seniors, the Hawks cruised their way through districts and eventually beat Cascade 3-0 in the district finals to take the WesCo crown and earn a berth into the state tournament.
After taking WesCo, the Hawks earned a No. 1 seed for the state tournament which pitted them against Kentwood in their first game on Friday, May 29.
The Hawks narrowly escaped behind Seidlitz’s 13 strikeouts to take a 1-0 victory.
The Hawks then battled through a tough Mountain View team getting the victory 3-1 thanks to another dominant performance by Seidlitz on the mound and senior catcher Kayla Watson driving in two runs.
Riding the momentum of the previous two games, the Hawks won a thriller in the last inning of the game. Facing a three-run deficit going into the last inning of the game, the Hawks rallied for four runs to beat Redmond.
Watson and Seidlitz were the stars again; Watson had a pair of hits including a double and two runs batted in and Seidlitz struck out 11 on the mound. This win put the Hawks into the state championship game.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, the squad seemed to be out of gas as they suffered a bad loss to Kelso in the championships 13-2. Seidlitz was hit hard for the first time in the entire season.
The Hawks season as they went 13-4 in conference play and 21-5 overall and with a second place finish in the state tournament this is easily the greatest softball team in Terrace history.
On May 29, the entire MTHS community gathered in the Terraceum to celebrate the softball team as they made their way into the 4A state finals.
