‘Green collar’ housing set to be the future in Mountlake Terrace
April 18, 2012
In downtown Mountlake Terrace new apartments are under construction; the name of the complex will be Arbor Village. These apartments are going to be the largest advancement since the Mountlake Terrace center plan was assembled in 2006.
Arbor Village “should be completed in about 16 to 17 months, so probably summer of 2013,” city clerk and community relation director Virginia Olsen said.
The property owners are AFCO & Sons, a Seattle based real estate company that builds “greener” multi-family building complexes. The location of the apartments is on 56th and 236th St. S.W. There were seven residential homes that were demolished as the first step in the construction process. The houses had been built on concrete blocks.
According to AFCO & Sons’ website, Arbor village will be about 11,000 square feet of commercial use. The first floor will have a “state of the art security system, movie theater room, party room equipped with kitchen, plasmas, pool table, and sitting area,” AFCO & Sons, LLC have indicated. On the five floors above there will be 123 residential units. Also, beneath the commercial floor there will be two floors of underground-secured parking.
The City of Mountlake Terrace will expand 450,000 square feet, and this project will add roughly 1,400 new jobs. The city plans to take Mountlake Terrace into the future over the next five years.
