Ryan Sturgill explains to teammate Matthew Meadows the tendancy of the opposing pitcher so he would know how go about his next turn up to bat.
Ryan Sturgill has left an impressive impact on the Terrace community, being an active member of the baseball team, ESports, and Aerospace through the school’s STEM pathway.
His baseball record is impressive, having gone to state three years in a row.
This year, the team won the District 1 Championship and finished in the top eight in state. His achievements as an individual player have also been notable, especially his prowess as a bunter.
Sturgill had the highest on base percentage in all of Wesco 3A in spring 2023, achieving a 0.630 average. He also achieved the second highest batting average in Wesco 3A, with a 0.444 average in 2023. He has also enjoyed success as a left-handed pitcher.
Notably, in the summer of 2023, Sturgill embarked on a tour of every major league baseball stadium.
“It had always been my dad’s dream since a kid to go on a road trip to all 30 major league baseball stadiums,” Sturgill said. He and his dad decided the summer of 2023 would be the perfect chance to take this trip and help out the community.
During this time, he organized a fundraiser that ended up raising $45,000 for Wellspring Family Services, a Seattle-based charity that helps homeless employees.
Off of the baseball diamond, Sturgill set a school record for his bridge project in principles of engineering, a class in the Aerospace pathway.
His bridge held a total of 1689.3 pounds while weighing just 8.6 lbs.
Sturgill also played a major role in establishing the school’s Esports team.
During his time with Esports club, he helped the team get its own room and sustainable funding. He also assisted in training new players and organizing other coaches for Esports.
Sturgill was even able to get college Esports teams to come in and play as a demo for Terrace’s team. Several students on the Esports teams received scholarship offers from colleges because of their performance.
These scholarship offers have helped prove to many that this club should be taken seriously.
Sturgill’s impact on both Terrace’s and the greater Seattle area’s community are very significant and his legacy will be remembered for years to come
