T-Birds race past Hawks, 11-1

By Desmond Saisitthidej

The Hawks faced Shorewood and ace left-handed pitcher Blake Snell in a key game as the Hawks are third in the 3A WesCo standings with Shorewood in first, but the Hawks fell short 11-1, Tuesday afternoon at home. The two teams square off again this afternoon at Shorewood.

Even though the score does not show it, the game was tight most of the afternoon and well into the evening. Shorewood led 1-0 until the top of the fifth inning, when freshman Dominic DeMiero came in to relieve Jalen Pahinui with one out and two on base. From that point on the Thunderbirds took off scoring four more runs before the Hawks finally put an end to the run.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Thunderbirds were up 5-0. The Hawks never had a chance to rally as their only run came in the bottom of the seventh. The Thunderbirds added insurance runs late in the game, strengthening their first place position in the standings.
