Free prom dresses available in Fines Office
April 28, 2017
With prom coming up on May 13, the Parent Teacher Student Association has set up a rack of free prom dresses in the Fines Office, headed by fines manager Sandy Merten.
Prom is a big event in your high school life. We just want to make sure they can have a dress to make sure they can go to their prom and have a good time.”
— Sandy Merten
In the fall, MTHS hosts Glamour Day as an opportunity for students to pick up free homecoming dresses for those who don’t have the funds available for a new dress. The leftover long dresses are saved to be given out later for prom.

“Prom is a big event in your high school life,” Merten said. “We just want to make sure they can have a dress to make sure they can go to their prom and have a good time.”
Merten said students shouldn’t be afraid or embarrassed to take a dress because it is done in a subtle and “lowkey” manner. A student can come into the fines office, try on dresses, then take it home in a bag.
“We just don’t want not having a dress to deter a girl from being able to go to prom.” she said.
Currently there are about 50 dresses available, ranging from sizes 0-18.
Merten encourages students to send their friends to the fines office if they know they’re looking for an affordable prom dress.
