New Edmonds School District (ESD) Superintendent Kristine McDuffy talks to Hawkeye Editor-in-Chief Paxtyn Merten about how she plans to lead the district upon current Superintendent Nick Brossoit’s retirement.

McDuffy addresses budget concerns, student voice and being accessible to the community, among other topics related to her philosophy on education. While she does not currently have a set agenda for the district, she is currently focusing on meeting new people so that she can work with them to “build a plan for the future” based on preexisting programs.

McDuffy has worked in public education for 33 years. Prior to applying for the superintendent position in the ESD, McDuffy was the superintendent of Arlington Public Schools. She said that being able to work in the ESD “feels like coming home” because she grew up in Everett and went to Edmonds Community College and was a student teacher at Lynnwood High School.
