Freshmen steal the show at Jazz Night
A group of freshmen stole the show at Thursday’s Jazz Night on Jan. 14.
Six freshmen took the MTHS stage between Jazz 1 and Jazz 2’s performances. Their performance excited the audience members, who cheered loudly for the players.
The freshman group consisted of Jackson Marrott, Kieran Faris, Matthew Hipolito, Ben Eyman, Reiden Chea, Jacob Knight who played a selection of “Skinny Love.”
“The members were chosen for us and the songs were chosen for us,” Saxophone player Jackson Marrott said.
He also said their goal as a music group in a creative music lab is to make quick arrangements and make it the best it can be.
The sextet later joined Jazz Ensemble 2 for their performance.
Jazz Ensemble 2 concluded the night’s concert with Duke Ellington piece “Rocks in My Bed.” Freshman Praditha Halstad was featured as a vocalist during the performance while Reiden Chea accompanied her as a featured clarinet.
