ESD releases statement following reports of armed man at Shoreline school

Edmonds School District (ESD) Spokesperson DJ Jakala released a statement to families earlier today after Shoreline Public Schools (SPS) went into lockdown amidst reports of an armed man on the Meridian Park Elementary campus in Shoreline.

Students were released from school after police cleared the SPS campuses.

In the phone message Jakala said there was no “immediate threat” to any ESD schools. However, Jakala said some ESD schools were taking precautions.

“Our schools nearest to the King County line are taking precautionary measures and are on alert due to this situation,” Jakala said.

King County Sheriff’s Office Media Relations Officer Sergeant DB Gates tweeted earlier that the suspect was  described as a “male, camo pants, dark hoodie. Unknown race, unknown age. Had a firearm.”
